MIDIplay

MIDIplay is a MIDI player for iOS and Silicon Mac computers. It supports multiple tracks and multiple channels which can be selectively turned on/off. Sliders also allow you to change the tempo and tuning.

MIDIplay currently understands MIDI note on/off and sustain pedal messages. These messages can be sent to networked Audiobus 3 compatible MIDI devices or used to play a built in synthesizer. The synth is similar to that used in Uber Synth, which is based on a cross-modulated frequency modulation (FM) synthesis approach. MIDIplay contains an easy to use version of the synth in which you change the sound by moving through a sound space.

The following video demonstrates MIDIplay running on an iPhone 13.

Connecting to External Devices

It is also possible to connect MIDIplay to external devices using Audiobus. Here’s Bach’s Prelude in C minor (BWV 999) rendered on the Moog Grandmother.

And here’s Debussy’s Clair de Lune played on a Nord Electro 6.
